JASMAR contributions to control HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS project in 6 states (Blue Nile, Sinnar, Gezira, White Nile, North Kordofan and South Kordofan), in partnership with UNFPA, Oct. 2012 - May 2013

In this project JASMAR Human Security Organization acting as Umbrella NGO for HIV Round 10 activities in six states, namely: Gezira, Sinnar, Blue Nile, White Nile, North Kordofan and South Kordofan.

The contracted implementing partners from six states have submitted proposals to UNFPA implement MARPs and IGA projects in these states.

A total of 13 NGOs is currently implementing MARPs interventions in 6 states. In White Nile the implementing partners are Sudanese Environment Conservation Society SECS and Sudanese General Women Union, in North Kordofan Sudanese Family Planning Association (SFPA), Sub Saharan International Development Organization (SIDO) and Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and in South Kordofan (CAFA) Community Animation Friends Association.

In Gezira the implementing NGOs are Sudanese General Women Union (SGWU) and Sudanese Family Planning Association (SFPA), in Sinnar state Sudanese Family Planning Association (SFPA) and Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and in Blue Nile State the implementing partners are Global Health Foundation (GHF) and Friends of Peace and Development Organization (FPDO).

Selection of the localities was based on the project proposals as well as the consultation with the State AIDS Programs (SAP).

Round 10 implemented activities included the same package as Round 5. The most important is that the induction meetings took place prior to the start up of the projects helped identify the roles and responsibilities, improved the coordination and indentified the possible challenges and constraints that may face these projects and prepared the implementing partners on how to overcome them.

Coordination of the response at state level, sharing of the plans as well as the flow of information was the most important priorities of these projects. Moreover, the findings of Round 5 activities helped improve the implementation during this phase.

The most important development achieved regarding the IGA activities was the development of the comprehensive IGA package in collaboration with the economic consultants. In addition the involvement of the risk reduction counseling was crucial in order to ensure monitoring of the behavioral change among those beneficiaries.

The previous experience of most of the implementing partners during Round 5 projects enriched their experience in dealing with MARPs.

Joint supportive supervision between JASMAR as an Umbrella and UNFPA played a key role in enhancing the overall performance of the implementing partners.

After joint assessment by SAP White Nile and JASMAR, Friends and PLWHIV Association has been selected in to implement MARPs interventions in Elduem locality.

Despite the challenge of the supervision of 13 national NGOs, JASMAR is highly committed to achieving high standard performance related to interventions among key populations in the six targeted states in collaboration with SAP and implementing partners at state level.
